“The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again.”
In one age, called the third age by some, an age yet to come, an age long sence passed, there was a really epic Fantacy sieries that is still the best ever, even though it is ended. Yet there is no endings or beginnings in the Wheel of Time, but it was an End...
Hello:
For many years, some of us faithfully fantasy obsessive-compulsive types have habitually followed along with Robert Jordan’s Tales From Randland, otherwise more colloquially known as ‘The Wheel of Time. Some veterans can still recall their first time reading Eye of the World, and can regale in great and precise detail, that epic experience of first following along with Rand al’Thor and the gang’ss adventure from the Two Rivers, across the world, and deep into the blite. Twenty-three years later, over fourteen thousand pages, fifteen novels and a WoT guidebook, fourty-five million copies sold, a host of tradingcard games, MUDs, and a video game later, the epic high-fantasy series, started by the great sir Robert Jordan, and completed by Branden Sanderson, has alas come to it’s conclusion. But still fans now sit and ponder what’s next.
There has been talk within the last deckade of TV and Film adoptations, more video games, and even Japanese animes, all of wich never completely confirmed, or even started on for that matter. But nevertheless, us followers of Jordan’s epic legacy sit and contemplate WoT’s future. There are many form and blog threds on the net that discuss, usually very heatedly, the ideas of HBO adoptations VS Film interpretations, CGI animations, and yes, in one particularly unfortunate case, a musical. Most fans would, in no unserten terms, rebelle against the latter idea as though it were a hord of blood-thirsty Shadowspon, eager to feast upon our flesh. However, there is another market that hasn’t fully been tapped.
For the past several years, a company has arisen, bringing new light to the audiobook market by way of dromatising many tytles. I speak of course, of Cutting Audio, or Graphic Audio®. By giving voice to individual characters, use of cutting-edge sound effects, and compelling musical scoring to complete the theam, Graphic Audio has brought to life many Western, Sci-Fi and Fanticy epics such as Branden Sanderson’s ‘Alantris, R. A. Salvitor’s ‘Demon Wars Saga,’ and Brent Week’s ‘Night Angel’ and ‘Lightbringer Triligies. With the rellitave success of such tytles, one must ponder—would this be a good market for re-releasing one of the most aclamed high-fantacy series sence Tokien’s ‘The Lord of the Rings?
I for one would most deffenatly have to second this concept. With Graphic Audio’s inate ability to lift the characters from the pages, and give them voice, no pun intended, it is perfectly reasonable to assume this to be a great arena for Randland to thrive, at least, until a concensus has been reached in that Ages old dispute; film or TV.
I would like to gather some of your thoughts on this matter, and perhaps try to determan if a massive fan request, or pitission would be viable. What do you all think? Graphic Audio and Wot; yay or nay?
Sirious discussion only please. I shan’t have this thread defiled by the non-reframing of pichforks and torches. :P
In the spirit of lament, I leave you with some memorable quoets from this holey grale of fantacy epicness.
“Almost dead yesterday, maybe dead tomorrow, but alive, gloriously alive, today. -- Mat Cauthon”
“Duty is heavy as a mountain, death is light as a feather.” Rand al'Thor
“Run when you have to, fight when you must, rest when you can.u can.” elyas machera
“The wheel weaves as the wheel wills” Pretty much everyone at one point or another
“Advice!Nobody tells us how to be men. We just are." "That is probably why you make such a bad job of it.- Perrin and Egwene”
“An open sack hides nothing, And an open door hides little, but an open man is surely hiding something.
lini is quoted by Nynaeve.”
And one final one for the great Robert Jordan, may his soul find rest and be free of mortal aflictions, as he has awoken from the dream. Wash the Speers!
“May you shelter in the palm of the Creator's hand, and may the last embrace of the mother welcome you home.”
I got the last book as soon as it came out. I loved this series. I think a graphic audio of wot would be a great idea. It'd have to be incredibly long.
I have yet to read this series, but everyone raves about it. I am, however a big fan of Graphicaudio, even though I don't have the money to keep up with all the good stuff they've released. They do a very good job with their fantasy serieses, and so I think it would be a great idea form them to think about giving the Wheel of Time the GA treatment.
Me neither. But it sounds good, and reading the first post decided me almost to try it. I have only five titles translated into my language and the rest in english, but this wouldn't be a problem. I haven't started it yet because it's quite large. Still, if half of those said above are true, than it is worth a try.
I forgot to ask... how many are they? 12 by robert jordan, and the 13th by Brandon Sanderson?
Nice! After weeks of letting this topic sit, I'm plezently surprised to see postings.
Well lets see here:
Winter -Child, There are fourteen books, fifteen counting the Prequel. Books 0 through 11 were written by Jordan, and 12 through 14 were completed by Sanderson. I must inform those who have not read the sieries yet that reading the prequel before the first 8 or so books would not be a wise move. You'll just get confused and fail to apreciate the sieries. Read 1 through 8 or 9 then read it. It makes much better sence that way.
Roxtar, I hear you man. I'm not going to say what median I used to obtain it, but I had my coppy in audio within the first hour of it's release, and an unofficial digital copy three days later. Needless to say, the book was read front to back within the first five days of ownership. Was, not, disappointed! In fact, it had to be one of the sweetest endings I could have hoped for..
The-Blind-Guardian, Yep. I get mine through a friend who gets every title, regardless of genre. I have quite a bit, from all the Deathlands books, up to all the Fantacy titles. Godda love the GA team man, they simply rock!
Well, like I said. I really didn't expect this thread to pick up after the first two weeks of non-postings. Thanks for dropping in and leaving your opinions.
I believe it was Roxtar who brought up a very valid point. If GA chose to undertake this project, it would be long as hell. But when you compare it to the likes of Doomsday Warrior which was 20 books, or Outlanders which I believe was 45, or even topping those, Deathlands, which I believe just released their one-hundredth and seventh book, fifteen books isn't such a tall order.
No, the problem that they would face is the amount of characters in the sieries. Granted, most of them are only around for a while, or are killed off outright, but there are still something like two-thousand of them. Not sure on the exact number, check the Wiki. But that's a major undertaking for any self respecting voice acter.
But the thought of hearing Rand lobbing pattern taring bars of Bail Fire around, or Lan cutting his way through a hord of Trolocs with his sword like the bad ass he is, or the Aiel charging into battle, that's just fricken intense. It really does send shivers down my spine. I say we raise awareness to GA, and send a pitission off to Jordan's Widow and beg of her to ask GA to do it. Because only Graphic Audio would do WoT right!
I bet you and I got our books from the same place. *grin*
love these books but I haven't read the last one yet.thought it was over last year and I read the whole fuckin thing again just to find out there was still 1 more? pissed me off the right way. I'll read the last one when it comes on bard. but I thinkp Salvitor’s in a league of his own.
